An action is the task Zapier performs after a trigger event occurs. Setting up your action ensures that the right task is completed automatically — whether that’s sending a message, creating a record, or updating client information in Momentum AMS.
Choosing Your App and Event
In the Zap editor, add an Action step and search for the app where the task should occur, such as Slack, Dropbox, or Momentum AMS.
From there, select the action event that Zapier should perform.
Example: In Slack, you might select “Send Direct Message.”
Example: In Momentum AMS, you might choose “Create Prospect.”
Connecting Your Account
Zapier requires a connection to the app before it can perform actions.
If you’ve already connected the app, select your saved account from the list.
If not, use Connect a new account and follow the prompts to authorize the integration.
Once connected, Zapier will be able to run actions in that app whenever the trigger fires.
Configuring Action Details
Each action includes fields that you’ll need to set up. These fields can be filled in with:
Dropdowns – Choose from values provided by the app.
Text fields – Enter static text or map dynamic data from the trigger.
Lists – Provide multiple values, such as multiple recipients or items.
Example: You might map the subject line of an incoming email (trigger) to the message body of a Slack notification (action).
Be sure to fill out all required fields, and use optional fields to add extra details if needed.
Testing the Action
Before finalizing, Zapier will let you run a test to confirm the setup. It uses data from your trigger event and sends it to the action app.
If the action is to create a task, Zapier will actually create a test task in the connected app.
If the action is to send a message, you’ll see a sample message appear in the designated channel or inbox.
If the test fails, double-check your field mapping and account connection, then retry.
Finalizing Your Zap
After confirming the action works correctly:
Save the step and return to the Zap editor.
Add additional actions if needed, or finish the setup and turn on your Zap.
Once enabled, Zapier will automatically perform this action every time the trigger event occurs.
